Stewart Community Connections is a poverty working group committed to breaking down the barriers to healthy and prosperous living in Stewart. Our current focus is connecting our community to health and social services that are unavailable locally and working to develop other key services our community needs, such as: childcare, continuing education, and opportunities for recreation and organized sport.
About My City: Stewart
Stewart is a small and isolated town in Northern British Columbia. We are situated on the border of Alaska, nestled in the mountains at the end of the Portland Canal. Stewart experiences extreme snowfall in the winter and an abundance of wildlife year round. Although Stewart attracts many tourists with world-class fishing, heli-skiing and wildlife viewing, there are only 400-500 people living permanently in our community. As a result, Stewart is often lacking in opportunities and services that other communities enjoy.
My Collaborative: Stewart Community Connections
Stewart Community Connections is a community collaboration between the District of Stewart, the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Northern Health, Success by Six, Bear Valley School and their Parent Advisory Committee, Stewart Food Bank, Faith Groups, RCMP and committed members of the public.
