Recognizing Canada’s gradually improving fiscal situation, the Caledon Institute has published a short commentary calling for medium-term policy changes that would help achieve longer-term goals.  Its list of 12 ideas provide a glimpse of a social safety net made stronger by targeted improvements in the areas of income security programs, aboriginal education, caregiving and investments in transportation and recreation.  The suggestions come from Caledon’s 20 years of looking for policy-ready solutions to the inequalities that continue to stand between many Canadians and the lives they would like to build.
