Medicine Hat Poverty Reduction Funding

Tuesday May 15, 2012 was an important date for the community of Medicine Hat as  three funding organizations stepped forward to the support  the efforts to Reduce the Cost of Poverty in Medicine Hat.

The Medicine Hat Community Housing Society, the United Way of Southeastern Alberta and the Community Foundation of Alberta announced joint funding, totalling $41,000.00, to address three fundamental  research questions:

1) What is the LIving Wage in Medicine Hat?

2) Who is impacted, directly and indirectly, by poverty in Medicine Hat?

3) How does poverty impact the community of Medicine Hat?

It is anticpated that the researchers will take a holistic approach that examines  the financial and social implications of poverty,  health and educational factors and  the range of resources availble in the community. 

The research will be conducted over next few months with a final report being completed by the fall of 2012.
