Building A Better Economy One Job at a Time

On Sep. 12 2017 Ryerson's Centre for Labour Management Relations and the Better Way to Build the Economy Alliance brought together over 20 speakers from academia, community, government, health, and policy, as well as over 100 representatives from various stakeholder groups, for a one-day conference – Smart Employers Talk - Building a Better Economy One Job at a Time.

The goal of this conference was to provide #smartemployers - who vary in scope and size - an opportunity to share how providing #decentwork and #goodjobs has allowed them to surpass their competition, and ultimately #buildabettereconomy for everyone. These employers' stories demonstrated that supporting a good jobs strategy can result in greater productivity and profitability for businesses, improved job and income security for workers , and decreased inequality and injustice for all of society.

The contents of these proceedings capture, distil, and build on the insights and knowledge of the conference speakers to present a new educational research platform, which merges crucial first-hand perspectives from employers that offer decent work with evidence from public health, economic and sustainable investment leaders to showcase viable models of best practices.
