The Canadian employment rate is increasing steadily, with an increase of .10 percent between February 2017, where it was 61.40 percent, to 61.50 percent in March 2017. This is in contrast to June 2016, where the employment rate was below 61 percent. With an increase in the employment rate, experts are more confident in the economy, predicting it will grow by 2.4 percent. But how does this impact local communities?

How Does High Employment Impact a Community?

A high employment rate means more people are working. With this, people will have more money to spend locally, which should boost the interior economy of their community, allowing for more economic gains in the future. This is especially true if they’re purchasing locally-made products and using local services. With a thriving community, there is more chance of attracting more business, in turn leading to a larger community.

Communities can then begin to invest money into infrastructure and public services such as education and health care for those in need. As communities grow, there becomes a higher demand for workers, and with the increasing employment rate, people will have more opportunities to apply for jobs and secure one.

How to Contribute Without a Job?

If you’re unemployed, you might think that you can’t help your community. This isn’t true. Volunteering is a great way to help out, and could provide experience that will assist you in getting a job when you decide to apply for one. By volunteering, you’ll be helping your community out, and you’ll be building your resume up by gaining valuable experience. Remember, you don’t have to be unemployed to volunteer, either. If you think you can give more to your community, then you should. Don’t be discouraged as any help would be appreciated.

Aside from volunteering regularly, you could look into public service. If you think you can be of help to your community by organizing events that people can take part in, or by fundraising, then this is a great way to bring a community together. You could organize a fun run, to raise funds for the local school, or a bake sale to help out a center for people with disabilities. There are many different ways to help your community out, and they don’t always have to be large gestures. Even helping out your neighbor is a good way to foster a community that cares for one another.
